Windsor Marie

Marie Windsor, née Emily Marie Bertelson le 11 décembre 1919 à Marysvale (Utah) et décédée à Beverly Hills (Californie) le 10 décembre 2000, est une actrice américaine. Elle fut consacrée « Reine de la série B » par le public et la critique des années 1940, tout comme Fay Wray, Lucille Ball ou Ida Lupino. 

Carrière

Miss Utah en 1937, la jeune femme monte à New York pour y suivre l'enseignement de la comédienne d'origine russe Maria Ouspenskaïa, adepte des théories de Stanislavski, père de la méthode de l’Actors Studio. Après quelques années passées à cachetonner dans des troisièmes rôles, apparitions et autres silhouettes, souvent non crédités au générique, la reconnaissance vient avec son rôle de femme fatale dans un film noir, L'Enfer de la corruption (Abraham Polonsky, 1948), aujourd'hui considéré comme un classique, avant de s'imposer dans ce genre. Elle joua également beaucoup pour la télévision, notamment dans d'innombrables shows et séries populaires (Maverick, Rawhide, Bonanza, L'Incroyable Hulk, Arabesque)

Après avoir déserté les plateaux de cinéma et de télé, Marie Windsor se consacra à sa passion pour la peinture et la sculpture. En 1999, elle fut nominée par l'American Film Institute pour apparaître parmi les 50 plus grandes stars du cinéma américain de tous les temps. Elle se maria deux fois, une première fois avec Ted Steele3, puis avec Jack Hupp, membre de l’équipe nationale de basket-ball en 1936. Ce dernier, avec lequel elle eut un fils, fut ajouté au Athletic Hall of Fame de l’Université de Californie du Sud en 20074. Ils sont enterrés dans l'Utah, à Marysvale.
