1916: Plot to Kill China’s Ruler
MOSCOW — A conspiracy against Yuan-Shih-Kai has been discovered by the Court spies.
At its head are the President’s secretary and high officials, among them being two Ministers and the Master of Ceremonies of the dethroned dynasty. The conspirators proposed to surround the palace with troops, to kill Yuan-Shih-Kai, to re-establish the Republic and to transmit the power to agents of the Yun-Nan Government, who have arrived in the capital. Five hundred persons, of whom many are well known, have been flung into prison.
