Scottish actor passes away in London nursing home. Actor Angus Lennie died last night aged 84. The Glasgow-born star started as a comic before turning his hand to acting.

He appeared in long-running ITV soap Crossroads, as well as films 33 Squadron, The Dambusters and Tunes of Glory.

However it was his role as 'The Mole' in The Great Escape that he is best known for. 

It was in this wartime film that Angus appeared alongside Steve McQueen, James Garner and Richard Attenborough.

The news comes less than one month since Richard died at the age of 90.

Angus spent his later years on regional stages and in Scottish pantomimes.

The cause of his death has not been released.
