Isaac Cogar

Isaac “Junior” Cogar, 93, of Belpre (formerly of Guysville), went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Belpre Landing. He was born May 30, 1923 in Removal, West Virginia, and was the son of the late Isaac A. and Iva L. Cogar.

Isaac was a longtime member of White’s Chapel Wesleyan Church of Coolville. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a Staff Sergeant and served in Germany, England and France. He served as the Chaplain of the Athens Gideon’s International, Director of Prison Ministry in the Wesleyan Church District and was a member of the Belpre Senior Citizens. For many years he was the Standard Oil Fuel distributor in Athens County, Ohio and an over the road truck driver, finishing his driving career with driving bus for Park Tours, Parkersburg, West Virginia.

He is survived by his eight children, Clea (Okey) Ahart of Belpre, Dane (Tricia) Cogar of Guysville, Darrell Cogar of Athens, Vickie Cogar (Dana Fouss) of Belpre, Donnie (Janet) Cogar of Gahanna, Daren (Rhonda) Cogar of Belpre, Lola (Charles) Reardon of Parkersburg and Teresa (Mike) Boyer of Guysville; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Cogar of New Marshfield; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Jo Nuzum and Iris Higgins.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Edith J. Osborne Cogar; a son, David L. Cogar; a daughter, Cindy Finney; a granddaughter, Jill Cogar Reardon; grandson, Patrick Boyd; and four sisters.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, 801 Victor Street, Belpre, Ohio with Pastor Don Cogar Officiating. The family will be receiving family and friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.
