Marguerite De La Motte was a silent
film star and leading lady in several movies starring Douglas Fairbanks.
De La Motte was a native of Duluth, Minn., and studied under famed dancer Anna Pavlova. She made her
movie debut after Fairbanks saw her as the dance star of the prologue that opened Sid Grauman's Million
Dollar Theater in Los Angeles.
Fairbanks invited her to become his leading lady and she appeared with him in "The Mark of Zorro," "The
Three Musketeers," "The Iron Mask" and other films.
With the advent of sound pictures, her appearances before the camera grew less frequent.
During World War II, De La Motte was an inspector in a Southern California war plant. Later she went to
San Francisco and went to work for the Red Cross.
She died March 10, 1950, at St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco after suffering cerebral thrombosis following an operation.
