Jenkins Allen

Allen Curtis Jenkins (né Alfred McGonegal; du 9 avril 1900 au 20 juillet 1974) était un acteur et chanteur américain qui a travaillé, au cinéma au théâtre et à la télévision.

Carrière

Les deux parents d’Allen Jenkins étaient des comédiens musicaux, et il est entré au théâtre comme mécanicien de scène après la Première Guerre mondiale, après avoir passé du temps à travailler dans le Brooklyn Navy Yard. Bien que son personnage à l’écran soit celui d’un dur de Brooklyn pas trop brillant, Jenkins a assisté à l’American Academy of Dramatic Arts et a joué dans de nombreuses pièces de Broadway avant de faire ses débuts au cinéma en 1931. Il a trouvé sa place chez Warner Brothers, où il a perfectionné son personnage de gangster/chauffeur de taxi/flic/etc. lent mais de bonne humeur. Vers la fin de sa carrière, il apparaît fréquemment à la télévision et est un habitué de la série télévisée Hey, Jeannie! (1956). Il est probablement mieux connu par les "baby-boomers" comme la voix de l'Officier Dibble dans la populaire série de dessins animés Top Cat (1961).

Décès

Jenkins est mort d’un cancer du poumon le 20 juillet 1974, à l’âge de 74 ans. Son corps a été incinéré, et les cendres ont été dispersées en mer.
