British and French Troops Capture Naarvik
28th April, 1940 British and allied troops landed at Naarvik today, swiftly capturing the town and destroying the port.
The British troops were accompanied by two battalions of the French Foreign Legion and were reinforced with a Polish brigade.
The capture of the main target of this Norwegian campaign will be viewed as a significant success by the British and French governments. Some are concerned, however, that with the Luftwaffe’s dominance of the skies, it will be difficult to maintain control of the area against the Germans.
