Mulhall Jack

Jack Mulhall est un acteur et producteur américain né le 7 octobre 1887 à Wappingers Falls, État de New York (États-Unis), mort le 1er juin 1979 à Woodland Hills (Los Angeles).

Jeunesse

Mulhall est né à Wappingers Falls, dans l'État de New York. Il était l'un des six enfants d'un père irlandais et d'une mère écossaise. Il a commencé à participer à des numéros de fête foraine à l'âge de 14 ans.

Acteur

Avant de jouer au cinéma, Mulhall a travaillé dans le théâtre traditionnel, la comédie musicale et le vaudeville. Il a également travaillé comme modèle pour des illustrateurs de magazines. Sa première apparition au cinéma (en dehors de rôles de figurant) a eu lieu dans *The Fugitive* (1910). À l'époque du muet, Mulhall était un acteur populaire, particulièrement dans les années 1920 ; il a tenu des rôles principaux dans des films tels que *The Social Buccaneer*, *The Mad Whirl* et *We Moderns*. Parmi les rôles marquants du milieu de sa carrière, on peut citer ceux dans *The Three Musketeers* (1933), *Burn 'Em Up Barnes* (1934) et *The Clutching Hand* (1936).

Sa dernière apparition au cinéma remonte à 1959, dans le film *The Atomic Submarine*. À la fin des années 1940, Mulhall a rejoint *Blackouts*, une revue scénique produite par Ken Murray. Après l'arrêt de cette production en 1949, il a participé à des émissions de télévision dans les années 1950. Sa dernière apparition télévisée a eu lieu dans la série *77 Sunset Strip*. Après avoir mis fin à sa carrière d'acteur, Mulhall a travaillé pour la Screen Actors Guild en tant que négociateur de contrats jusqu'en 1974.

Vie privée

Au sommet de sa carrière cinématographique, Mulhall a acquis « d'importantes étendues de terres dans ce qui est aujourd'hui Sherman Oaks, dans la vallée de San Fernando ». Toutefois, les pertes subies durant la Grande Dépression ont anéanti sa fortune. La première épouse de Mulhall était Bertha Vuillot, décédée peu après leur mariage. Sa seconde épouse, Laura Brunton, s'est suicidée en 1921. Plus tard cette même année, il a épousé Evelyn Winans ; ils sont restés mariés jusqu'à la mort de l'acteur en 1979.

Décès

En 1979, Mulhall est décédé d'une insuffisance cardiaque congestive au Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital de Woodland Hills, en Californie. Il était âgé de 91 ans. Il a été inhumé au cimetière Holy Cross de Culver City, en Californie.

Reconnaissance

Pour sa contribution à l'industrie cinématographique, Mulhall a reçu une étoile sur le Hollywood Walk of Fame, située au 1724 Vine Street. Elle a été inaugurée le 8 février 1960.
