Kenny Colin

Colin Kenny est un acteur irlandais, né le 4 décembre 1888 à Dublin, et mort le 2 décembre 1968 à Los Angeles, deux jours avant son 80e anniversaire. 

Acteur

Colin Kenny naquit Oswald Joseph Collins le 4 décembre 1888 à Dublin, Irlande. Déjà très connu dans son pays d’origine, l’acteur Irlandais Colin Kenny arriva aux Etats-Unis en 1917 pour tracer son chemin vers le statut de star du cinéma. Il devait alors tourner dans plus de 150 films. Les films muets furent plus généreux pour gaspiller les crédits. Il endossa des rôles réguliers de 1918 à la fin des années 1920. Une de ses meilleures opportunités avait été l’interprétation du rôle de Cecil Greystoke dans Tarzan chez les singes (1918) et sa suite, Le roman de Tarzan (1918). Quand le son survint, les studios furent plus réticents à accorder des crédits et les gérèrent de la meilleure manière qu’ils pouvaient—à savoir le moins d’acteurs possibles.

Cela, cependant, fut le lot de nombreux acteurs de caractère de l’époque, ainsi que des personnes travaillant à la production. Colin Kenny trouva néanmoins toujours la même variété de rôles. Il fut l’Horloge Parlante dans Alice au pays des merveilles (1933). Sa phrase introductive (une des rares qu’il avait à prononcer) dans le rôle de Lord Chester Dyke dans Capitaine Blood (1935), "Ahh, coupable!" dans une attitude distinctement aristocratique durant la scène de tribunal en Angleterre, restera vraiment à part. Des petits rôles de toutes sortes devaient être son fond de commerce durant cette époque, parce qu’il était déjà dans la quarantaine.

Pourtant il aura une moyenne de 5 à 6 rôles par an de 1934 à 1947, et la liste de ses films inclura quelques films majeurs. Son année la plus chargée sera 1952, avec des rôles dans des films comme L'homme tranquille (1952) et Les Feux de la rampe (1952). Après cela les petits rôles se raréfièrent et il commença à endosser des rôles figuratifs non crédités. Cependant Colin Kenny continua à travailler. Il rejoignit la foule des acteurs Britanniques expatriés et vieillissants pour des petits rôles de choix dans My Fair Lady (1964). Son dernier film fut Le Kid de Cincinnati (1965), film fait pour mettre en valeur Steve McQueen.

Décès

Colin Kenny décéda de causes inconnues le 2 décembre 1968 à Los Angeles, Californie, à 2 jours de son 80ème anniversaire.
