Phillips Dorothy

Dorothy Phillips est une actrice américaine née le 30 octobre 1889 à Baltimore, Maryland (États-Unis), morte le 1er mars 1980 à Woodland Hills (Los Angeles). 

Elle commença sa carrière d’actrice sur les planches avant de faire ses débuts devant la caméra en 1911 dans His Friend’s Wife. Pendant un moment, elle fut surnommée "Kid Nazimova" pour ses capacités à imiter Alla Nazimova. La carrière de Dorothy Phillips ralentit dès 1927 et elle n’apparut plus que dans des rôles non crédités pour le reste de sa carrière. En 1930, elle fit la transition vers le cinéma parlant avec le film, The Jazz Cinderella. Tous ses rôles furent ensuite non crédités jusqu’à sa derrnière apparition à l’écran dans “L'Homme qui tua Liberty Valance”. Parmi ces rôles non crédités, certains le furent dans des films devenus des classiques comme “Le Facteur sonne toujours deux fois”, “L’Homme au complet Gris”, “Les Inconnus dans la ville”, “Le Père de la Mariée” ou encore “Mme Parkington”.

Au total durant une carrière qui s’échelonna sur près de 50 ans, Dorothy Phillips assuma plus de 150 rôles et, fait assez rare pour être signalé, uniquement sur le grand écran. Dorothy Phillips n’apparut en effet jamais sur le petit écran. Dorothy Phillips fut mariée à l’acteur Allen Holubar pendant 11 ans jusqu’à sa mort d’une pneumonie en 1923 à 35 ans. Dorothy Phillips, elle-même, devait décéder d’une pneumonie le 1er mars 1980, à 97 ans. Elle est enterrée au Hollywood Forever Cemetery de Los Angeles. Pour sa contribution à l’industrie du film, Dorothy Phillips a une étoile sur le Hollywood Walk of Fame, situé au 6358 Hollywood Blvd.
